From buying chips to cashing out
The beginner's guide on the Paradise Casino official website describes the following process.
- Sit in an open seat at a table for the game you want to play
- Buy chips from the dealer at the table (if you run out, you can buy more from the dealer)
- When you finish playing, change your chips into larger-denomination chips (to make cashing out easier)
- To exchange chips for cash, go to the cashier. Dealers do not exchange chips for cash
The same guide says you may be able to leave your chips with staff when you step away from the table, so ask a staff member. The overall process is similar at other casinos, but where you can buy chips and which currencies are accepted differ by casino.

|---|---|---|---|
| Money chip | All gaming tables | Buy at the table | Yes, at the cashier |
| Roulette play chip | Roulette only | Buy at the roulette table | Yes, at the cashier |
| Lucky chip | Can be used in games | Received in exchange for mileage or as an event reward | Cannot be exchanged for cash as is (money chips paid out when you win can be exchanged for cash at the cashier) |
If you are not sure whether a chip you have can be exchanged for cash, ask the dealer or the cashier staff.
Things to watch out for when exchanging money
- Keep your exchange receipts. The Seven Luck Casino official website says the receipt from your exchange is needed when you exchange money back
- A passport may be required for exchange. The FAQ on the Seven Luck Casino official website says a passport and a membership card are required for exchange
- Large exchanges may require additional documents. Seven Luck Casino says that for amounts exceeding the equivalent of USD 20,000, the foreign exchange declaration certificate issued at entry is required
- Whether Japanese yen can be used differs by casino. At casinos without official guidance, check at the cashier on site
Customs declarations for entering or leaving a country with a large amount of cash (for travelers departing from Japan) are covered in Carrying Cash on a Korea Casino Trip.
Prepare money for the rest of your trip separately
Keeping the money you spend at the casino separate from flights, accommodation and local transportation makes it easier to avoid overspending. How to split your budget is covered in How Much Budget Do You Need for a Korean Casino Trip? It also helps to decide before you leave how you will pay for meals, shopping and transportation outside the casino.
Summary
The basic process is to buy chips at the table and go to the cashier to exchange them back into cash. Whether foreign currencies such as Japanese yen can be used, and what you need to exchange money, differ by casino, so check the guidance for the casino you plan to visit.
How to get a membership card and the differences between casinos are covered in What Is a Korean Casino Membership Card?, and entry conditions and the entry process in Your First Visit to a Korean Casino: A Beginner's Guide.
